Information on Layer 5

The Layer 5 is Layer 5 of the ISO OSI 7-layer model. The Layer 5 manages a logical connection (session) between two communicating processes or applications and is responsible for establishing a dialogue between applications. Session-layer protocols specify how to establish a communication session (such as how to login to a remote timesharing computer). Specifications for security details such as authentication using passwords also belong in Layer 5.
