Information on Dispersion

The velocity of propagation of an electromagnetic wave through a medium is frequency-dependent. Lower frequencies travel more slowly than high frequencies meaning that high frequencies arrive first and cause distortion of the received signal, known as dispersion. Ideally, the propagating medium and the channel bandwidth should be chosen so that the velocity of propagation of the highest and lowest frequencies is similar.
