Information on Media access control protocol (MAC protocol)

The media access control protocol (MAC protocol) is a sub-layer of the data link of the OSI reference model. The media access control sub-layer defines how a transmitting station gains access to the network media. Common MAC protocols are carrier-sense multiple access/collision detection (CSMA/CD) and token-passing.
