Information on Medium frequency (MF)

The medium-frequency (MF) band is a radio-frequency (RF) band in the range 300-3,000 kHz. The lower portion of the MF band is useful for communications systems requiring reasonably stable transmission over moderately long distances. Antenna sizes are reasonable but substantial transmitted powers are required for reliable communications since appreciable atmospheric noise occurs in this band. Propagation is predominantly by sky wave with relatively weak ground wave. This band is commonly used for commercial radio broadcasting and is also used for fixed services, maritime mobile service, maritime and aeronautical navigation, and amateur communication.
