Information on Repeater

A repeater is a physical layer (Layer 1) device that interconnects two local area networks (LANs). Repeaters operate at the physical layer and therefore can only interconnect local area networks of the same type. A repeater does not understand any network protocols; each bit received on one port is regenerated and retransmitted on all other ports.
