Information on Antenna Feeder

A dipole is a balanced antenna since it has a current on both legs. A monopole is an unbalanced antenna with a current only on one leg and the other grounded. A balanced antenna should be connected to a balanced antenna feeder and an unbalanced antenna to an unbalanced antenna feeder.
The feeder between transmitter or receiver and the antenna must be accurately matched to the antenna input impedance for maximum power transfer. This can be achieved by using an antenna feeder of the same impedance as the antenna or by employing one of the many matching devices available. Antenna feeder lines commonly used are the coaxial cable (50-80 Ohm) and the two-wire open line (300-700 Ohm).
