An array antenna is made up of a
number of elements. Each of the elements of an array
antenna is one of:
An active element, which is
usually a dipole antenna and connected to the antenna feeder.
A
reflector, which is a passive element that tends to distort
the radiation pattern away from itself, and is not connected
to the feeder.
A director, which is a passive element that
tends to distort the radiation pattern towards itself, and is
not connected to the feeder.
Array antennas in common use include
the log periodic antenna and the Yagi antenna. Array antennas
may be narrowband or broadband, and are used in all
frequency bands.
