Information on Array Antenna

An array antenna is made up of a number of elements. Each of the elements of an array antenna is one of:

  • An active element, which is usually a dipole antenna and connected to the antenna feeder.
  • A reflector, which is a passive element that tends to distort the radiation pattern away from itself, and is not connected to the feeder.
  • A director, which is a passive element that tends to distort the radiation pattern towards itself, and is not connected to the feeder.

  •      Array antennas in common use include the log periodic antenna and the Yagi antenna. Array antennas may be narrowband or broadband, and are used in all frequency bands.
