Information on Balun

When an unbalanced transmission line is connected to a balanced antenna (coaxial line to a dipole, for example), extraneous currents run along the outer surface of the transmission line. So, even though the impedances are the same, these extraneous currents can cause unwanted radiation. This radiation can be minimised by the use of a Balun (balanced-to-unbalanced network).
A Balun is placed between the antenna and the antenna feeder.
