Satellite.  A satellite communications system can be used for carrying a wide range of communications services, including Internet acces, television and telephony.

Satellite Broadband.  Satellite broadband Internet access uses a satellite channel to carry downlink traffic to the user.

Satellite Modem.  In a satellite Internet connection, the satellite modem is in the customer's premises, and is used to encode signals sent to the ISP and decode signals received over the satellite from the ISP.

Satellite Router.  A satellite router is used in satellite broadband Internet access to separate a customer's local network from the network operator's network.

Satellite Speed.  The speed available from a satellite broadband Internet access channel may be up to 40 Mbps.

SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line).  SDSL (Symmetric digital subscriber line) allows broadband data services to be carried on conventional copper pair telephone cables.

SDSL Broadband (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Broadband).  SDSL (Symmetric digital subscriber line) allows broadband data services to be carried on conventional copper pair telephone cables with the same data rates on the uplink and downlink.

SDSL Modem (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Modem).  In the context of an SDSL broadband Internet connection, the SDSL modem is situated in the customer's premises, and is used to encode signals sent over the SDSL channel to the ISP and decode signals received from the ISP.

SDSL Router (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Router).  An SDSL router is used in SDSL broadband Internet access to separate a customer's local network from the SDSL network operator's network.

SDSL Speed (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Speed).  A typical SDSL connection may provide 256 kbps on each of the uplink and downlink.

SDSL Splitter (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Splitter).  An SDSL Splitter is required in SDSL systems to all a broadband signal and a conventional telephone signal to be carried over the same channel.

SDSL Switch (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Switch).  An SDSL Switch is a switch that is integrated with an SDSL modem, and possibly other components supporting an SDSL connection.

SOHO (Small Office Home Office).  SOHO (Small Office, Home Office) is a term used to describe generically the types of small networks typically found in the home or a small office environment.

Switch.  A switch is a data-link layer (Layer 2 of the OSI model) internetworking device.
