Information on Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Broadband

Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Broadband (Symmetric digital subscriber line) allows broadband data services to be carried on conventional copper pair telephone cables with the same data rates on the uplink and downlink. The capacity provided by SDSL depends on the distance between the subscriber's premises and the local telephone exchange; Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Broadband provides higher capacities for subscribers who are closer to the exchange, and lower capacities for subscribers who are further away.
     The term "symmetric" in Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line Broadband refers to the commonality of uplink and downlink capacities; the same capacity is provided for the downlink as for the uplink.
