Information on Virtual Private Network

A Virtual Private Network provides a secure, virtual tunnel between two network devices. A common use of a Virtual Private Network is to allow a remote user to connect to an organisation's network with priviledges associated with the "inside" of the network, rather than being treated as "outside" the network (and therefore the firewall.)

Brands of Virtual Private Network include:
  • Netgear.  Products from Netgear include NAT Virtual Private Network, DSL Router, Repeater, Cable Modem and NAT Firewall
  • 3Com.  Products from 3Com include DSL Switch, Ethernet Router, Wireless xDSL Access, xDSL Switch and PPPoE
