Information on Broadband Modem

In a broadband Internet connection, the broadband modem is in the customer's premises, and is used to encode signals sent to the ISP and decode signals received over the broadband channel from the ISP.
Modem is a contraction of the words modulator/demodulator. A modem transforms a digital bit stream into an analog signal (in the modulator), and vice versa (in the demodulator) so that the digital signal can be passed over an analog channel.
