Information on Cable Router

A cable router is used in cable broadband Internet access to separate a customer's local network from the network operator's network. In order to allow multiple network devices on the internal network to share a single IP address allocated by the cable ISP (Internet service provider), a cable router normally includes a NAT router. A cable router may provide a number of ports for the local network; one common configuration provides four 100baseT, 100 Mbps Ethernet lines.
