Information on Ethernet Switch

An Ethernet switch is a data-link layer (Layer 2 of the OSI model) internetworking device. An Ethernet switch contains a number of Ethernet bridges, providing one bridge between each pair of external Ethernet ports. The advantage of an Ethernet switch over an Ethernet bridge is that there is no single point for congestion to occur; data can flow independently between each pair of network segments.
