Information on Satellite Router

A satellite router is used in satellite broadband Internet access to separate a customer's local network from the satellite network operator's network.
Because a satellite broadband Internet access system commonly uses a non-satellite back channel, such as a conventional telephone modem, the satellite router must provide a facility to separate uplink and downlink traffic, and allow the two streams to be carried over different channels.
A satellite router normally includes a NAT router to allow multiple network devices on the internal network to share the single IP address allocated by the satellite ISP (Internet service provider). A satellite router may provide a number of ports for the local network; one common configuration provides four 100baseT, 100 Mbps Ethernet lines.
