Information on Switch

A switch is a data-link layer (Layer 2 of the OSI model) internetworking device. A switch contains a number of bridges, providing one bridge between each pair of external ports. The advantage of a switch over a bridge is that there is no single point for congestion to occur; data can flow independently between each pair of network segments.
