Information on VPN

A VPN (virtual private network) provides a secure, virtual tunnel between two network devices. A common use of a VPN is to allow a remote user to connect to an organisation's network with priviledges associated with the "inside" of the network, rather than being treated as "outside" the network (and therefore the firewall.)

Brands of VPN include:
  • Netgear.  Products from Netgear include Ethernet Repeater, NAT VPN, xDSL Router, Cable Modem and VPN
  • 3Com.  Products from 3Com include VPN, ADSL Switch and
  • Dlink.  Products from Dlink include xDSL Modem, xDSL Router, PPPoE, xDSL Switch and Ethernet Switch
