The Mobile Station Identitfier (MSI) is a number
uniquely identifying a CDMA mobile phone.
Once a mobile has affiliated,
the network allocates a temporary MSI (TMSI), which is used
to identify the subscriber in future exchanges. This provides limited
anonymity, or privacy.
The Mobile Station Identitfier (MSI) and
electronic serial number (ESN) are independent.
