GSM mobile phones acquire their personality from a smart card
known as the SIM . All the
access rights (including identification for billing) are based on the
SIM , rather than the mobile phone
itself. A SIM may be moved
from one phone to another.
The SIM
provides:
the international mobile subscriber identify (IMSI) ,
security functions, including authentication
and key exchange, and
storage, for features such as frequently-used
numbers.
