Information on GSM SIM

GSM mobile phones acquire their personality from a smart card known as the SIM . All the access rights (including identification for billing) are based on the SIM , rather than the mobile phone itself. A SIM may be moved from one phone to another.
     The SIM provides:

  • the international mobile subscriber identify (IMSI) ,
  • security functions, including authentication and key exchange, and
  • storage, for features such as frequently-used numbers.
