Information on Data Service

The GSM data service provides a usable data rate of 9.6 kbps in one full-rate traffic channel, or 4.8 kbps in a half-rate traffic channel. The difference between the usable data rate and the raw channel data rate is used for carrying parity bits for the GSM channel coding.
