Information on Air Interface

The GSM air interface operates in the UHF frequency band. Initially, most countries in which GSM is used allocated 25 MHz for the uplink and 25 MHz for the downlink at approximately 900 MHz. Additional allocations (75 MHz for each of uplink and downlink) have been made in the 1800 MHz band by these same countries. In the US, GSM makes use of the 1900 MHz PCS band, which it shares with a range of other PCS systems.
