The GSM radio interface operates in the UHF frequency
band. Initially, most countries in which GSM is used allocated
25 MHz for the uplink and 25 MHz for the
downlink at approximately 900 MHz. Additional allocations (75 MHz for
each of uplink and downlink) have been made in the
1800 MHz band by these same countries. In the US,
GSM makes use of the 1900 MHz PCS band, which
it shares with a range of other PCS systems.
