Information on Speech Coding

The GSM speech coder compresses digital voice signals arriving at 8000 samples / s to a 13-kbit / s signal.
The compression algorithm is Regular Pulse Excitation - Long Term prediction - Linear Predictive Coder (RTE/LTP).
Channel coding is then applied to the speech bitstream.
The theoretical minimum delay of the GSM speech coding is 20 ms. The standard requires that the transcoder delay be less than 30 ms.
