Information on Half Rate Codec

The GSM half rate codec is the speech coding used in some GSM networks where a higher efficiency is required. The compression involves mapping input blocks of 320 speech samples to encoded blocks of 260 bits. The half rate codec requires one full rate traffic channel to carry its data.
