Information on Regular Pulse Excitation - Long Term prediction

The GSM voice coder compresses digital voice signals arriving at 8000 samples / s to a 13-kbit / s signal.
The GSM speech compression algorithm is Regular Pulse Excitation - Long Term prediction - Linear Predictive Coder (RTE/LTP). The compression involves mapping input blocks of 160 speech samples to encoded blocks of 260 bits. This process is reversed in decoding (i.e. mapping input blocks of 260 bits to output blocks of 160 reconstructed speech samples.)
