Information on Wireless Application Environment

The Wireless Application Environment (WAE) provides a micro-browser with functionalities including:

  • Wireless Markup Language (WML), which is similar to HTML, but optimised for handheld mobile terminals;
  • WMLscript, a lightweight scripting language similar to JAVAscript;
  • Wireless Telephony Application (WTA), which provides telephony services and programming interfaces; and
  • a set of content formats, including images, phone book records and calendar information.

  •      A key aspect of the Wireless Application Environment (WAE) is the use of binary (as opposed to text) formats as a means of compression for low-capacity wireless channels.
