The Wireless Application Environment (WAE) provides a micro-browser with
functionalities including:
Wireless Markup Language (WML), which is similar to
HTML, but optimised for handheld mobile terminals;
WMLscript, a lightweight
scripting language similar to JAVAscript;
Wireless Telephony Application (WTA), which
provides telephony services and programming interfaces; and
a set of
content formats, including images, phone book records and calendar information.
A
key aspect of the Wireless Application Environment (WAE) is
the use of binary (as opposed to text) formats as
a means of compression for low-capacity wireless channels.
