Project Management Glossary

Cash Flow.  Cash flow is important to a project manager who is responsible for the management of the budget for the project.

Certified Project Management.  A certified project management process and certified project management staff allow an organisation and its clients to be certain that project management is implemented appropriately within each project.

Certified Project Manager.  Employment of a certified project manager allows an organisation and its clients to be confident that project management is implemented appropriately within each project.

Charter.  Charter is another term for project charter.

Closure.  Closure is the act of completing a project or a phase of a project.

Communications Planning.  Communications planning is the act of planning the information requirements of the various stakeholders to ensure that the necessary communications systems are available for information distribution.

Constraint.  A project constraint is some restriction in the way a project can be conducted.

Construction Projects.  Construction projects are undertaken by civil engineers to construct buildings, roads, bridges and the like.

Contingency.  Contingency is another term for reserve.

Contingency Allowance.  Contingency allowance is another term for reserve.

Contingency Plan.  A contingency plan is required to ensure that processes and resources are available to cope with any contingency events that may arise during the conduct of the project.

Contract.  The contract is a mutually binding agreement between two parties.

Contract Administration.  Contract administration involves managing the relationship between the acquirer (buyer) and developer (seller).

Contract Authority.  The contract authority is that individual or organisation that is authorised to sign contacts on behalf of the acquirer.

Contract Award.  Contract award occurs when the authorised officer for the acquirer signs the contract.

Contract Negotiation.  Contract negotiation occurs at the beginning of the acquisition phase of a project when the customer has selected a preferred tenderer and wishes to negotiate terms and conditions to establish an agreed contract that will cover the project.

Contractor.  A contractor is an individual or an organisation who has signed a contact with the acquirer.

Cost Control.  Cost control is another term for control.

Cost Control System.  A cost control system supports the management measures implemented to ensure that the project cost is maintained within the required bounds during the life of the project.

Cost Estimating.  Cost estimating involves the process of arriving at the planned cost for a project.

Cost Estimation.  Cost estimation involves the process of arriving at the planned cost for a project.

Cost Estimation Software.  Cost estimation software supports the process of arriving at the planned cost for a project.

CPM (Critical Path Method).  CPM (Critical path method) is a network analysis method whereby the overall project duration can be estimated from the analysis of the durations of each of the activities and their schedule dependencies.

CPM Software.  CPM software assists in using the Critical Path Method (CPM) technique.

Critical Activity.  A critical activity is one of the activities that lie on the critical path, which dictates the duration of the project.

Critical Path.  The critical path is the series of activities (critical activities) that dictate the duration of the project.

Critical Path Analysis (CPA).  Critical path analysis is another term for the critical path method.

Critical Path Method (CPM).  Critical path method (CPM) is a network analysis method whereby the overall project duration can be estimated from the analysis of the durations of each of the activities and their schedule dependencies.

Critical Path Planning.  Critical path planning involves developing and managing the critical path, which is the series of activities that dictate the duration of the project.
