Information on Blind Range

A monostatic pulse radar can not transmit a pulse at the same time as it receives pulses reflected from targets. Consequently, whenever the radar system is transmitting a pulse, it is blind to any returned pulses that are arriving at the radar site.
Pulses that have been received this quickly (during the transmission of the pulse) would necessarily come from targets that were either very close to the radar system or very distant from the radar. The pulse width of a radar system therefore determines its blind range or minimum range. Targets falling within this range from the radar system are not detected.
