Information on Comsat

In 1962, the US Congress passed the Communications Satellite Act that authorised the establishment of the Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT). COMSAT’s main functions were to establish a commercial communications satellite network. COMSAT launched and operated the Westar series of satellites over the US.
