In satellite communications systems, a low earth orbit (LEO)
satellite operates at heights of between 500 and 2,000 km
above the Earth’s surface. Low earth orbit satellites can
be used for many purposes including satellite communications and surveillance.
When
used for satellite communications, a low earth orbit satellite
provides a much smaller delay than a geostationary earth orbit
satellite.
