Independent Verification And Validation (IV&V). Because the designers associated with the process may be too close to be able to take an objective view of the process, an independent party is often invited to perform independent verification and validation (IV&V). Integrated Logistics Support (ILS). Integrated logistics support (ILS) is a management function focused on assuring that the user will receive a system that will not only meet performance requirements, but can be supported throughout its lifecycle. Integration. Integration is the process of combining parts into a whole. Integration Testing. Integration testing is undertaken to ensure that components can be integrated to form modules, modules to form subsystems and subsystems to form the system. Interface. An interface is a statement of the functional requirements and constraints that exist at a common boundary between two functions (functional interface) or two configuration items (physical interface). Interface Control Document (ICD). The Interface Control Document (ICD) is used to manage the integration of different system elements. Interoperability. Interoperability is the ability of two (or more) systems to interoperate. Interoperability requires attention to hardware, software, communications protocols and applications. ISO 9000. The ISO 9000 family of quality assurance standards represents good management practices with the aim of ensuring that the organization can continually deliver products or services of the required quality standard.
