Information on DT&E

DT&E is largely undertaken in the Acquisition Phase to support the design and development effort. DT&E is generally undertaken by the contractor since they are the developer of the system. The customer will invariably want visibility of the testing process and results through the technical reviews and audits.
DT&E takes place throughout the Acquisition Phase and aims to highlight design deficiencies early, since the earlier a deficiency is noted, the cheaper and easier it is to rectify. Developmental Test and Evaluation is used to validate designs and to monitor and minimise design-related risks. It therefore covers a broad range of testing levels
