Information on Disposal

Disposal is the final act of the system lifecycle and of the systems engineering process. Once a system has reached the end of its life through obsolescence or economic viability, it must be disposed of. Disposal is the final stage in the lifecycle and disposal activities include transportation, handling, decomposition, and processing.
Disposal can be costly and time consuming and disposal considerations should be taken into account during the design activities of the Acquisition Phase of the systems engineering process. While it may not always be obvious, there can be significant costs associated with disposal, which must ultimately be borne by the user.
