Information on Legacy System

A legacy system is an existing operational system that must be incorporated into, or interoperable with, the new system. The legacy system will dictate a number of functional requirements. The suitability of a legacy is often assessed early in the design through the use of an appropriate prototype of the system or subsystem. While there are considerable advantages to using a legacy system, the systems engineering effort must ensure that the requirements for reliability, maintainability, robustness, and so on, are being met.
