Information on Lifecycle Model
The lifecycle of a system commences with a statement of
need and ends with the disposal of the system brought
into service to satisfy that need. In between, there is
a series of stages or activities, each of which builds
on the preceding stage or activity to form the systems
engineering process. These stages or activities are characterised by a
lifecycle model.
A lifecycle model therefore provides a
model for the lifecycle of a system, from the statement
of need through to disposal of the system. A general
model includes two broad phases: the Acquisition Phase and the
Utilisation Phase. It is useful to break the Acquisition Phase
down further into the major activities of Conceptual Design, Preliminary
Design, Detailed Design and Development, and Construction and/or Production.
There
are a number of life cycle models in existence.
