Information on Trade-Off Study

In requirements engineering, a trade-off study is a constrained objective evaluation of alternatives at a point in the design process where a decision needs to be made, or can be made, between alternative approaches. The trade-off study (also called trade study) is a very useful tool to document the design process and to ensure that the design scope remains bounded. A trade-off study is also sometimes called a trade-off analysis.
