Information on Tailoring

A customer will rarely specify an entire standard without considering the relevance of each of the sections within the standard. A standard is written to cover almost all types of projects and systems and are deliberately written to be tailored. Tailoring is the process by which the customer and the contractor omit irrelevant sections of a standard to avoid wasting any time in the development effort. Unless tailoring of a standard is conducted, significant overhead can be introduced to the systems engineering effort.
