Information on Accountability and Responsibility
"Accountability and Responsibility" is one of the nine dimensions of the high-performance
team wheel.
Accountability and Responsibility suggests that team members are
responsible for both their individual results and the success of
the team as a whole. They share ownership of both
problems and solutions. They refuse to ignore issues and concerns
affecting team performance just because they may be in someone
else’s area of accountability.
Team (shared) ownership and responsibility, while individual
members know what they must do is the key characteristics
of accountability and responsibility. Team members hold one another
accountable. Drifts from high-performance on this dimension include situations where
no one is accountable for results. You’ll see problems like
turf issues (that’s not my job) and shifting the blame
(it’s some-one else’s responsibility). You might see people working really
hard in their own area, but not really aware of
what people around them are doing or how their work
fits together.
