Information on Problem Solving

Problem solving is the first step in a decision making process. Problem solving is therefore a core skill, particularly for teams. Problem solving involves defining and scoping the task, positing criteria for successful achievement of the task or resolution of the problem, and describing the circumstances surrounding the task or issue or the context in which it occurs. Next, problem solvers identify a range of possible causes, along with their respective assumptions. Then, the team brainstorms solution alternatives. At any point in the problem solving process, more information and analysis might be required. Teams are advised to use the process of operationalising to define problems, solutions, and resolution strategies.
