Information on Skills and Knowledge

Skills and Knowledge is an element of the high-performance team charter.
The Skills and Knowledge element of the Team Charter is essentially the Team Skills and Knowledge Matrix described in Chapter 6. In terms of the process or sequence, the team might identify the skill and knowledge areas needed, at a high level, based on its understanding of the Team Role and Responsibilities, as mentioned earlier, to complete this part of the Charter. This would allow them to move on to other tasks before going into the detail work required to complete the Team Skills and Knowledge Matrix. Not surprisingly, the Matrix does need to be completed in any event. Identifying what the team really needs in terms of skills and knowledge to succeed, and assessing its strengths and weaknesses accordingly, is an invaluable team-building activity. It builds an appreciation for individual differences, while creating deep ownership and sense of purpose amongst team members regarding team learning and development.
