"Straight Talk" is one of the nine dimensions of the high-performance
team wheel.
Straight Talk is direct, honest, and timely dialogue
and confrontation of issues that need to be brought out
into the open in order that they can be effectively
dealt with by team members. While candid, Straight Talk
is tactful and constructive, seeking mutual gain, not blame or
criticism.
Straight talk includes, but is not limited to, dialogue,
debate, and feedback. Team members are direct with one another,
even when difficult to be so. They are able and
willing to give as well as receive feedback. You'll see
the absence of straight talk in hidden agendas, secrecy,
and avoidance, and in being nice, rather and being honest.
A harmonious team is probably a team that does not
practice straight talk, and is probably not learning and
changing.
