Team Scope is an element of the high-performance team
charter.
Scope is the breadth and depth of the team’s responsibilities,
the limits that define how far it can and must
go. Scope is like a boundary line, defining "what is
in" and "what is out". Scope, for example, can outline
decisions the team can and can not make, or set
limits / define criteria regarding where authorities begin and end.
Scope might be more easily understood within the context of
a set of teams, each responsible for some part of
a larger product or project. In this case, scope defines
where one team ends and the next one starts.
Scope can
be more, or less, specific, narrow, and formal, depending on
the nature of the work and the needs of the
respective teams. In organisations where boundaries are fuzzy among teams,
and ambiguity about "who’s doing what" or overlaps or gaps
in production or delivery exist, scope is certainly an issue
and needs to be addressed at the team level and
across teams.
