Team Values is an element of the high-performance team
charter.
Some teams like to publicly state their values about the
job, the team, work in general, relationships with customers, suppliers,
management, and other organisational units. Values might be thought of
as a philosophy that describes the ideals the team aspires
to fulfil or “live up” to. A values statement, then,
might consist of a list of principles or guidelines governing
behaviour or standards covering product or service delivery.
As with
many things, you don’t want to compromise the potency of
a values statement by having too many values. This is
a case where simpler (or fewer) might be better. Some
teams prefer to have a one-line credo that sums up
their philosophy or commitments, or universally applies across the range
of circumstances in which team members might find themselves, such
as Community First, Integrity before Profit, or Zero Defects.
