Information on Total Quality Management (TQM)
Increasing emphasis on Total Quality Management (TQM) and continuous
improvement has precipitated greater deployment of team-oriented organisational structures and
work processes. Both generally stress teamwork and cooperation, and collaboration
among employees at all levels. These models recommend empowered work
teams that (a) identify and satisfy customers and (b) continuously
improve work processes for increased productivity and quality. The way
there requires building capacity of the work team to better
meet immediate and future requirements. There are clear parallels between
Sociotechnical Systems and quality and improvement programs. Each actively engages
employees together to solve problems, make decisions, and manage activity.
Continuous
Improvement Through Team Building, implies that a performance or continuous
improvement program is achieved as teams progress through their team-building
activities. These synergistic ideas were especially applicable in an organisation
explicitly attempting to create a culture of high-performance and continuous
improvement.
