Information on Digital TV STB

A Digital TV STB is usually an integrated receiver decoder (IRD). The digital television set-top box therefore performs two functions: it acts as a receiver (demodulating the received signal) and a decoder (converting a compressed, digital bitstream into an analog signal that can be passed to an external monitor.)
