Information on Frequency Synthesis

A frequency synthesiser can generate any carrier frequency within the frequency band of the radio from a single accurate high-stability crystal oscillator. Each of the derived frequencies has the accuracy and stability of the source. The block diagram of the concept of frequency synthesis is shown in Figure 9.7. There are two main methods of frequency synthesis, the direct frequency synthesiser and the indirect frequency synthesiser methods.
