Information on Image Channel Interference

When the superheterodyne receiver is tuned to the wanted frequency there is always another frequency (known as the image frequency or image signal) that, when mixed with the local oscillator, will also produce the intermediate frequency (IF). If this image channel is allowed to reach the mixer it will also produce an interference signal that is at the IF and will be directly within the pass band of the intermediate frequency amplifier (IF amplifier). The radio-frequency stage (RF stage) therefore includes a resonant circuit that rejects the image channel.
