Information on Intermodulation

Within the receiver there are a number of components such as the RF stage, mixer and local oscillator, which must be operated linearly to avoid producing harmonics that may combine with unwanted signals to produce various difference frequency components (known as intermodulation products), some of which may fall within the pass band of the IF amplifier. These intermodulation products are best controlled by ensuring that high-quality components are used and that any unwanted RF carriers are eliminated by the RF stage.
