Information on Mixer

In the mixer stage of a receiver, the wanted signal frequency is mixed with the output of the local oscillator (LO) to produce the difference frequency as the intermediate frequency (IF). In practice, however, producing only the difference frequency is very difficult and unwanted components are generally produced at a large number of new frequencies. The quality of the mixer therefore depends upon how well it suppresses the unwanted frequencies.
