Information on URI (Uniform Resource Identifier)

URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) is a generic term for an object identifying an object in the World Wide Web. The URI has two important properties: it is simple and extensible.
A URI is either a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) or a URN (Uniform Resource Name). A URL specifies the physical location of a resource, while a URN is an abstract identification of the resource.
